representation of age

old people
  • stereotypically shown as vulnerable and weak
  • speak slowly
  • lonely
adults
  • arrogant
  • money driven
  • selfish
young people
  • rebellious
  • typically like fast paced music - rebellious
  • talk fast
  • slaves to fashion - insecurity

why do adults hate young people

The adults work for us to do nothing.
We are rebellious and we have no ambitions for the future.
Most young people are unemployed.
Young people have no responsibility and freedom, adults want to be able to be spontaneous and carefree.
They are jealous, they were too scared to lead the lives we live now.

why are adults obsessed with youth
we have beauty.
anti age creams make women want to look younger.
tv drama is made by adults to the viewpoints of adults - adult viewpoint.
old people stereotyped as pervert(family guy herbert the pervert)

28th November - The Hustle (gender)

How is the representation of gender constructed through:

1.) mise-en-escene
2.) camera angle
3.) editing
4.) sound

mise-en-scene

the clip is set in an upper class environment of a designer shop which by the looks of it sells very expensive dresses. This is shown by the salesman who is dressed in a very smart and expensive suit. The women that shop in there are very well dressed aswell (suits) which show their importance. The clip emphasises that women do have an importance in society and there are a lot of wealthy women. This is also shown when the woman gives the salesman an order to find it, which challenges sterotypes that women take orders from men.

camera angle

at the beginning of the clip the woman who is shopping a high angle is used to show her inferiority to the male because she is a female, it emphasises how much smaller she is physically and metaphorically. The camera pans from the shop to the men in suits smoking in the lounge. A medium shot is used to just show their upper body to emphasise masculinity.

editing

The male figures dominate the camera time which shows they are more important in this scene than women. when the man and woman have a conversation the man is given more of the camera time. The camera cuts very swiftly which is more masculine instead of fading which is more feminine.

sound

a mellow soundtrack with brass instruments is used int he background to create a jazzy atmosphere. this may be used to set the mood of the shop. It also shows the jazzy atmosphere of the bar/lounge to create a relaxed feeling.
